ON THIS SITE The open space between the two adjacent buildings was once the site of the Welsh Livery and Hilgar Garage. Subsequently, Edgar Shaffer opened the Roxy Theater on April 10, 1939 with a screening of the Sonja Henie romantic comedy “My Lucky Star.” The Roxy operated here until April 26, 1978, when, early the next morning, a fire of undetermined origin destroyed the building. The final movie playing before the fire started was “Saturday Night Fever.”
