Walk Around the Rock stop #2 The Shoemaker

ON THIS SITE since the early 1900’s, this site was occupied by many stores and services, including Young’s Barber Shop, Butterfly Tea Room, Barber’s Plumbing and many others. In the 1930’s Walter Uber added to the building for his plumbing and hardware store which became, for many years, a Ben Franklin 5 and 10-cent store. Every remnant of these stores was torn down in 1974 to build the Mellon Bank, later operated by the First National (Exchange) Bank and Citizens Bank of Evans City, which became NexTier Bank.

This sign will be mounted soon!
