ON THIS SITE Peter Uber, a cabinet-maker, came to Centreville circa 1805 and built a house and barn. Later, Peter and his son, W.H.H. Uber, went into cabinet making, later adding coffin making and eventually undertaking. The business passed from father to son to grandson to great-grandson. The funeral business ended in the 1970s and the furniture store extended into that area of the building. Bob and Jodi McCafferty purchased the building in 1998 and opened North Country Brewing Co. in 2005. The building has held an inn and tavern, cabinet maker’s shop, funeral home, furniture store, restaurant and brewery.
